It
is now law! From 1st January 2005 new Building Regulations Part P require all
electrical work involving rewires, the addition of new circuits, electrics in kitchens,
bathrooms, outside lighting/power and low voltage lighting installations to be
notified to local authority building control. It is a criminal offence not
to notify electrical installation work with fines of up to £5000 plus £50 per day
if your new work is not installed, tested and inspected to BS7671 and not notified to
Building Control.

to carry out domestic jobs without the need to apply for Building Regulations
permission giving a considerable cost saving to the house owner and guarantees a safe
installation fully complying with the regulations.

garden electrics including pond pumps, lighting and outdoor power supplies are included in
the Building Regulations. Electrics to remote garages, sheds and greenhouses are also
reportable to Building Control.
